All our dentists & nurses have been trained to a very high standard and follow stringent infection control precautions as a matter of course during normal day to day operations in the clinic. Our clinics are adhering strictly to the Guidance on Managing Infection Related Risks in Dental Services in the Context of the COVID-19 Emergency. We also continue to adhere to the code of practice relating to infection control and prevention issued by the Dental Council.

In these unprededented times we have also further upgraded our controls and have added the following new measures in order to ensure the safety of our staff and our patients:

  1. Additional PPE  (preventative protective equipment) for staff including N95 masks
  2. Introduction of social distancing measures (including limiting the number of patients on site at any one time)
  3. Increased use of hand sanitizer in waiting room for all patients
  4. Temperature checks for staff and patients

Dr Bowe would like to reassure all our patients that your safety and the safety of our staff is his highest priority at Bowe Dental Clinics , therefore he has created 3 short videos to explain all the procedures that are now in place to keep everyone safe when visiting the clinics:

  1. Ring for an appt or email us. Don’t just turn up.
  2. We will ask you some questions over the phone to screen you and make sure it’s safe for you to attend.
  3. Let us know when you have arrived for your appointment, wait in car and we will call you to come in.
  4. Enter the clinic, use hand sanitizer and have your temperature checked.
  5. Go into the surgery to meet the dentist (who will be wearing PPE) and receive the treatment you need.

NOTE: Please do not turn up to the clinic without phoning us first!

Some other questions that you might have:

What happens if I need emergency dental treatment before May 18th?

In the meantime we are currently operating an Emergency Clinic in our Roxboro branch from Monday to Friday 10am-Midday providing a range of emergency dentistry services including same day tooth removal, repair of fractured teeth and emergency pain relief.

What if I live more than 5km from Bowe Dental Clinic?

A dental appointment is an allowable excursion outside of the 5km radius as it constitutes essential travel as designated by Government. If you need an appointment, wish to discuss your treatment or just need advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 061 608 186.

Will I be charged extra for emergency treatment?

Our fees remain unchanged and we are absolutely not charging a separate emergency or call out fee. We also continue to see private, PRSI, medical card, and health insurance patients as normal.

What if I am nervous or unable to come into the clinic?

If you have any concerns or are unable to come into the clinic Dr. Bowe is also available to give advice to his patients over mobile and there is no fee for this service. Please call the clinic to request a call from Dr. Bowe.

What about non-emergency treatments?

As mentioned above, Bowe Dental will be fully re-open for all dental treatments on May 18th. Please phone or email us to schedule your appointment.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming all our patients back to continue with your treatments!

Nursing Home Patients Are Having Up To 20 Teeth Extracted Due To a High Sugar Diet and Lack of Dental Care!

A recent article from the Irish Dental Association has said that patients who reside in a nursing home are having up to 20 teeth extracted due to a high sugar diet and lack of dental care.

Gifting sweets and sugary drinks to the patients along with having a diet high in sugary foods is causing untold damage to the oral health of thousands.

Many of these patients are taking medications which can cause dry mouth, this also accelerates dental decay.

A low sugar message should be sent out to all healthcare professionals and appropriate oral health training programs should be made mandatory.

Where possible, family members of the patients should bring them into the dental clinic for regular check ups and cleanings.
