General Dental Treatments

Check Up & Examination

Regular dental examinations are extremely important if you want to maintain a healthy smile. At your examination we will do a full assessment of all your teeth and gums. X-Rays will be taken where appropriate and will allow us to see dental problems or disease that may not be visible to the naked eye

Fillings

Amalgam fillings (also known as silver fillings) are usually used on back teeth and are very strong, dependable and offer a long lasting restoration solution. Composite fillings (also known as white fillings) can be obtained in a range of shades so that a match can be made to make your restoration as natural as possible.

Extractions

The extraction process can range from a straightforward extraction of one tooth, to a surgical extraction where teeth are impacted or have complex root structures. After any type of extraction you will receive extensive aftercare instructions.

Sealants

Dental sealants are made of tooth coloured plastic resin and are placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Sealants are mostly carried out on children and will protect their teeth against decay.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is carried out when a patient is experiencing pain in the tooth or increased sensitivity to hot and cold substances. A root canal may take two visits. The first visit is to extract the nerve of the tooth. This will take away the pain, although the tooth may be tender for a couple of days following the treatment. The second visit is used to finish the root canal and fill the tooth. A root filled tooth is more brittle so it is advisable to have this tooth restored with a crown to protect it.

Crowns

A Crown is a single artificial tooth that fits over your prepared natural tooth. Crowns are used to rebuild broken, damaged or discoloured teeth, and to strengthen weaker teeth and overall   improve the cosmetic appearance of the teeth. A crown involves preparing the tooth and taking an impression. This impression will then be sent to our expert lab where they will create a crown to match the shape, size and colour of your natural teeth.

At your next appointment your crown will be tried for fit and colour. The crown is then permanently bonded with dental cement. Maintenance care is similar to that of natural teeth, requiring regular brushing, flossing and checkups with your dentist.

Bridges

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth and requires the adjacent teeth to support it and  is a permanent fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth. It requires the adjacent teeth to support it. It will look, feel and function naturally.

This procedure will begin with a thorough examination and this will determine if a bridge is the right solution for your problem. At the next visit the teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth are prepared and an impression is taken. A temporary bridge is then placed over the teeth. Your impression is then sent to our expert lab, where they will create your bridge to match the shape, size and colour of your natural teeth. This process usually takes between two and three weeks.

At the next appointment the temporary bridge is removed and your permanent bridge is tried for fit, colour and harmony with your bite. The bridge is then permanently bonded with dental cement.

Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech. A bridge will improve the overall appearance of your teeth and give you a bright healthy smile.

Like all dental restorations, bridges require maintenance, like brushing, flossing and visiting your dentist for regular check ups.
